Officials say the X-ray machines use low-dose X-rays equal to being inside an airplane for two minutes. The  X-ray machines cost between $130,000 and $170,000 each and will be installed at 28 airports. They are being manufactured by Rapiscan Systems in Ocean Springs.
GULFPORT, Miss. (AP) - The Gulfport-Biloxi International Airport is the first airport in Mississippi, Alabama or Louisiana to use advanced imaging technology to scan passengers.

The technology is optional and passengers can take a physical pat-down instead.
